Peter Harrison doktorirao je na Sveučilištu Queensland, magistrirao na Yaleu and Oxfordu. Svoju akademsku karijeru započeo je kao profesor povijesti i filozofije. Držao je Andreas Idreos Professor of Science and Religion poziciju na Oxfordu. Harrison je poznat po svojim utjecajnim radovima o religiji i podrijetlu moderne znanosti. Neke od njegovih (kontroverznijih) teorija su i o tome kako je priča o Padu imala ključnu ulogu u razvoju eksperimentalne znanosti i kako se ideje o religijama kao skupu vjerovanja i praksi prvi put javlja tek u sedamnaestom stoljeću. Urednik je The Cambridge Companion to Science and Religion.
